FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Yes, absolutely.  Cocks Moors Woods Aikido is a very inclusive dojo, welcoming kids from 6 years old, teenagers and adults.  Men and women are welcome and we are disability friendly.

Absolutely.  We are covered under JAC (Joint Aikido Council) insurance.

All our instructors are highly experienced Dan (black belt) grades and fully DBR checked.

On your first few weeks we start with the basics of how to fall and roll correctly to make sure you are safe, and partner you with students who are experienced and will make you feel comfortable working at your pace – we have all been the new one so know how it feels!

Of course, we encourage you to watch as you can see your childs development.  If you prefer you can wait in the leisure centre foyer but we ask you dont leave the centre for safety reasons.

No, Aikido is not religious.  Bowing and rituals in class are about respect, focus and discipline, not worship.

Whilst Aikido’s founder was influenced by spiritual ideas, the practice itself is secular and open to everyone.

Many people with health conditions can practice Aikido safely, but some restrictions may affect training.  Please give Sensei Mark Pickering a call on 07754 480805 to discuss your situation so we can advice you properly.
